Need Focus?

You can never remember what you should do today, until…
You sit to read your Bible!
Then, instead of being able to focus on the words in front of you, you can remember EVERYTHING you should have done yesterday and must do today.

What do you do to focus on what God is telling you?
I’ve shared how George Mueller increased his focus during prayer by reading the Bible and praying back God’s Word.
Mulling over God's words.
Using them to direct how he should pray and for what he should pray.

A dear friend of mine shared several times with me, how writing out the Word has increased her focus. 
It was required by the kings to write out the Law, so they would remember.
I always thought, “That’s nice. But I don’t need to focus that much."

Until, 
I started to write out the Bible.
I started where I was reading, Chronicles.
It was amazing how writing out the events in those chapters allowed me to make connections from previous chapters that I had never before seen.
Why?
Because I could remember what the previous chapter was about, because I was more focused on what I was writing.
I had to focus on each word I had to write.
Not only was I able to make connections from previous chapters and events in Israel’s life, but by slowing my reading to how fast I could write, I could mull over that verse that I was writing.
The Holy Spirit was able to bring deeper meanings. 

What I wrote stuck with me longer than a quick read or even a concentrated study.
My focus grew.

For Christmas, I requested my family to pick a book in the Bible and copy it. 
I even asked the grandgirls to participate—use it for handwriting practice.
Even if it were just a chapter in Psalms or Proverbs.
I told the boys it was not to make up for all the handwriting practices that they didn’t complete! 
I’m not even sure I could read mine after I’ve written it.
But the process of writing cements the words in my heart in a way that nothing else can.
When several volunteered and selected short books to write, I was excited!
When some finished one, they mentioned they had gone to do the next book.
They told how their focus improved.
What a gift to receive!
God’s Word printed by my family.
And God’s Word focused in their hearts.
It was gift I treasured.

Need focus?
Write out the Word. 
God’s Word will never return void.

women, wives and moms---
about your family, faith and future.
I write about what's hard, what helps and what heals.
I show you how it's done. And not done.
I hold your hand as you find what matters to the Savior.
And let go of those things that mattered to you, but not to Him.
I write about what matters...to Him.
