How Do You See Sin?
We see the countless abortions done.
It is the sin of murder.
And so it is.
But what other deeper sin is it?
Like hatred. We all do it at some time.
Yet God says,
Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. I John 3:15.
Are we, as Christians, killing babies too?
How does God see it?
God gave the Israelites commandments, “Thou shall not kill. Thou shall not steal. Thou shall not commit adultery.”
But what is the sin behind those surface sins?
Let me explain.
When David killed Uriah after his adultery with Bathsheba, Nathan, the prophet, gave David God’s message.
Did he say, “You murdered Uriah! And slept with Bathsheba!”?
No.
What sin is worse than murder?
David was not rebuked because he murdered a man— though that is high on our list of great evils.
After all, man is made in the image of God.
But it is not the sin Nathan mentions.
What sin does Nathan accuse David?
Nathan asked, “Why have you despised the Word of the Lord by doing evil in His sight?”
David was condemned because he despised what God said.
Read that again.
All sin is telling God we know better than He does—His Word is despised.
Now let’s go back to abortion—killing babies.
God abhors it.
That’s why He commanded Israel to utterly destroy the inhabitants of the land when they entered.
(It is specifically mentioned as a measurement of how wicked King Ahaz was in II Kings 16:1-3.)
We could go through the proofs of why abortion is wrong.
Killing of human life is murder.
But what is the deeper issue here?
Marriage was ordained by God.
Why?
For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife and they shall become one flesh. Genesis 2:24.
That one flesh means more than companionship.
Becoming united in thought, mind, body and soul.
It means procreating—having children.
That is why man marries a woman.
That was the original purpose—the God-ordained reason.
What has God said about children?
Behold, children are a gift of the Lord. The fruit of the womb is a reward…How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them...
Psalm 127:3-5
God wants to bless us with children!
We, as Christians, are like all people—we like to control—everything.
When we marry, we control “our family”—when and how many, if any children we have.
By our control, we have distained what God wants to give us.
We have told God, “We know what is best for us.”
We’ve told God, “No, thank You. We don’t want that blessing.”
We have, like David, despised what God has said.
We are ungrateful for what God offers.
What God has said is a blessing, we have cast away.
Ungrateful.
Reminds me of Romans 1.
For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man….” Romans 1: 21-23.
Oh, but you can give reason why now is not a good time.
Irresponsible? Not ready for children?
When man speculates, professing to be wise, they become fools.
You have despised what God has said.
How did God judge David for distaining His Word?
Nathan said, “because by this deed you have given occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme.” II Samuel 12:14.
What David had done in secret was revealed to the world.
It effected his testimony.
It effected his ministry.
It effected the rest of his reign.
We will never know what God could have done with us, had we obeyed and accepted what He wanted to give us—children.
We only know what God must do with us because we despised what God said.
Some dismiss marriage’s purpose and blessing.
The purpose and blessing of marriage was given before the Law, even before the Fall— in man’s perfect state.
This was why we marry!
Today, it is harder to raise children to know God.
But God still demands obedience.
Not because it is easy. Not when we are ready.
But when He decides to give.
He doesn’t give exceptions for obedience.
I’ve experienced God’s blessing with children.
I didn't earn them. It was a gift.
It's hard training them.
That made me rely on God’s help—something He wants us to do.
Now, I enjoy His blessing of grandchildren. And seeing my boys walk with God.
My life is full.
God doesn’t stop giving. He can’t.
But I had to accept what He had to give to receive that blessing.
Learn to see sin as God sees it.
It’s not against your neighbor.
It’s against God.
As we see sin, as God sees it,
We will fall to our knees in repentance and adoration, like Isaiah say, “Holy, Holy, Holy, You are Worthy.”
I really needed this right now, which may be why I didn't read it until today. I've been struggling in an area of my life and I needed to be knocked upside the head and made to listen to what God is saying. Thank you, your words are always timely and honest from the heart.
