Have You Seen God's Majesty?

If you’ve been reading my articles lately, I’ve been going through 1 and 2 Peter. There’s a lot there for how to live a Christian life, in spite of the evil world we live in.
Peter tells us in 2 Peter 1:16-17, “We were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For when He (Jesus) received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, ‘This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased.’”

Jesus’s authority and power was revealed on that mountaintop when Peter witnessed Jesus's transfiguration.
God’ grandeur, greatness and splendor became real.

Merriam-Webster defines majesty as “sovereign power, authority or dignity; used in addressing or referring to reigning sovereigns and their consorts; royal bearing or aspect: Grandeur, greatness or splendor of quality or character.”

How did that change Peter?
The beginning of verse 16 tells us, “For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
When Peter saw God’s majesty and authority, his own thoughts appeared little and insignificant.

When Peter on the Mount of Transfiguration saw God’s Majesty, he didn’t think about himself or what he should say, he worshipped.
"When the disciples heard this ['this is My Beloved Son'] they fell face down to the ground and were terrified." Matthew 17:6.
Seeing God’s majesty made Peter worship.

When Moses spoke with God, face to face, he returned from the mountain his face shone.
The people couldn’t stand to look at Moses. He had to wear a veil.
Others could tell that Moses had been with God.

What has that to do with us?
You say, we won’t ever stand on the Mount of Transfiguration and certainly won’t stand on a mountain to receive His Word.
So why is this important?

Because when we read His Word, we should bow before His supreme authority and search for what God wants from us.
We don’t read the Word for what we can get from it.
We will get something. But not what we are expecting. (Remember, His Majesty is so far above us.)

When we leave the Word, people should know we have been with God.
Our lives should be different.
Our countenance should be changed.
We should see less of what we do and more of Who God is.
We should reflect Him.
God should be worshipped.

Have I seen God’s Majesty?
Only a glimmer.
But I want to see more.

How do you approach God's Word?

I write about what matters...to you---
women, wives and moms---
about your family, faith and future.
I write about what's hard, what helps and what heals.
I show you how it's done. And not done.
I hold your hand as you find what matters to the Savior.
And let go of those things that mattered to you, but not to Him.
I write about what matters...to Him.
