Are You Ignored?

Ever go to a doctor and he’s so rushed? He rushes into the room, talks to you for one minute and is gone before you realized your visit is over.
What about all your questions and concerns?

What about your husband? Does he listen to you while watching television? Or not really listen while his game is on.
Maybe your kids “listen” to you as they shut the door between you (NOT acceptable in my house).

We all know what it’s like to be hurried or ignored.
Yet, isn’t that what we do with God?
"Wait a minute," you say, "I spend a lot of time at church…."

Even Sunday is not His anymore.
We give Him the church service and maybe Sunday School, then we have meetings, and things to catch up on.
Often before the service is finished, we are reminded of announcements or meetings.
Joey told of the church he attends now. Their announcements after the closing is like a commercial to get you to do something.
What happened to reflecting on what the pastor just said?
What about what the Spirit is trying to work in your heart?
It is snatched away by the next thing to do.

What about your problems?
You ask God for the answers, but then run off to fix them yourselves.
Have you ever waited quietly, until you heard His answer?

We ignore God by refusing to listen to Him.
But God will not always be ignored.

That’s what we’ve been talking about in these articles about seeing God in every day moments, and giving God your problems, because they really are His problems.
Where is the slow down, so I can listen to God time?
Our prayers are a whisper and a hope, but that is all.
Daniel prayed seven days for an answer.
Do we even wait ten minutes?

As Christians, we can’t even listen in silence for God’s still small voice.
We are so busy finding our favorite song to play next that we don’t know we’ve missed God.
Now it’s expected to have music, your own choice of music, all the time.
When camping, we’ve been beside people who shared their music with us. (Like it or not—we didn’t.)
What happened to listening to the birds and bugs sing?
What happened to appreciating the quietness?
He’s left our music.

What about devotions?
Do you rush to read one verse and pray “Bless you’s” over your family then head out for the day?
If—you do that?

Remember Elijah?
He listened for God’s answer through fire, wind, flood…
But it wasn’t until he quieted himself was he able to hear God’s still, quiet voice.
God doesn’t blast His answers while we hurry through life.
God’s answers can’t be rushed.

God waits.

God wants us to sacrifice our time to Him.
That means, give it to Him.

It’s not a waste of time to read His Word.
To think about it.
To ask Him questions.
To repeat a psalm back to Him in praise.
He enjoys your presence.

He is the only “Person” Who has all the time in the world to hear you, yet you don’t spend the time with Him.

Slow down.
Stop doing.
Be quiet.
And listen to God.

As you work (and it is work) at spending time with God, you will find that you are not ignored, in fact, you are more treasured than you can imagine.
God delights in your time with Him.
He wants you to know Him.
He wants you to delight in Him.

I write about what you---
women, wives and moms---
about your family, faith and future.
I write about what's hard, what helps and what heals.
I show you how it's done. And not done.
I hold your hand as you find what matters to the Savior.
And let go of those things that mattered to you, but not to Him.
I write about what Him.
