What Season Are You?

March 26, 2014

Ever buy a shirt but never wear it? It looked great in the store, but on you… Ever try makeup that looks great on someone else? But on you…maybe it was the wrong color.

How do you choose the colors your wear?

A Color for Every Season

Skin tone color matching or color analysis is a process of finding what colors complement your complexion. These color schemes are organized into seasons.

Cool Skin--Warm Skin

All skin tones are based on ‘cool’ or ‘warm.’ Skin undertones that are pink or blue with bluish veins would be winter or summer.

If skin has a yellow undertone and veins appear green, than spring or autumn seasons fit. Hair, skin, and eye color will help to determine the season.

Clear or Muted Skin

Once cool and warm skin tone is determined, deciphering between clear and muted will isolate the season. With clear skin, there is a large contrast between hair, skin and eyes. Their skin will have a translucent quality. Muted skin won’t exhibit the contrast.

Winter

Winter skin is cool and clear. People with pale skin and dark hair find winter colors flattering. Think winter: true white, true black, grays, navy blue, deep reds, bright pink, jewel tones, and icy pastels. Use silver not gold accents.

Summer

Summer skin is cool and muted. People with ash blonde, brown hair and light eyes tend to be summer. They tan easily. Think summer’s blooms: pastels, neutrals, muted colors, like lavender, rose, mauve, pale yellow, light blue. Avoid orange, black and vivid colors that drown out the summer skin tone. Use silver accents.

Autumn

Autumns are warm and muted. Their hair is brown or red, light golden skin and brown eyes. They burn easily. Think fall: earth tones, autumn leaf colors, gold, ivory, camel brown, orange. (I tell the boys---If it’s puke green, fluorescent orange or looks like dirt---it’s my color. The only blue that I can wear, I’m wearing in my bio photo.) If I wear white or black, I disappear in my clothes. If I wear purple—I clash. Buy gold not silver for accents. (I’m expensive.)

Spring

Springs are warm and clear. Light blondes, auburn or strawberry blondes with clear light eyes are here. Their light, ivory skin, freckles and rosy cheeks make sun a danger. If you cannot decide between spring or autumn, most autumns have dark eyes while springs have pale eyes. Think flowers of springtime: soft, pale colors, ivory, peach, clear blues, coral, golden yellow, bright greens, golden brown. Avoid dark, dull colors, black and white. Use gold over silver for accents.

How Does Knowing Your Season Help You?

Once you know your season, choose clothes or accessories that enhance your season. This will narrow how you shop. Color coding your shopping saves time. This will also help clean your closet—if you are a winter, get rid of that army green, you will never wear it. (That’s my color.) Those clothes that you liked in the store but can’t bring yourself to wear---probably weren’t your color. This also helps match your clothes---black doesn’t go with orange unless you want to be a pumpkin. Usually you can get away with colors that are not your season if it is worn away from your face, for example pants or skirts.

These seasons can also help you decorate rooms. Season colors match.

What Now?

You are probably wondering, ‘How does knowing your season relate to the Bible?' Glad you asked.

Ever wish for skin like so-and-so, or eyes the color of this person? We all have, if we're honest.

What does that speak to our Creator Who made us just the way He wanted us?

He created us. “All things have been created through Him and for Him.” (Colossians 1:16) “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)

We weren’t an afterthought---He planned us before the foundations of the earth, just as He wanted.

What should be our response? “Shall the potter be considered as equal with the clay, that what is made would say to its Maker, ‘He did not make me’ or what is formed say to Him who formed it, ‘He has no understanding.’” (Isaiah 29:16) “Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker…will the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you doing?’ or the thing you are making say, ‘He has no hands’?” (Isaiah 45:9)

God created you just the way He wanted you to be. Instead of looking at what colors you cannot wear, or the hair color that you wished you had, thank God for what He has given you. He has made you for His good works so ‘walk in them.’

What colors complement you? What do you wish to change? How do you learn contentment for what you have been given?

Another great reminder. Oh yes, how I wish I had different skin (like our daughters Christi and Laura!), it just isn't fair! But you are right, God made me as I am and there is so much to be thankful for. (Had to see Joseph last week, again, and not thankful for the condition, but thankful to have him to see!)
