Don’t Grow Weary. Do Good.

November 5, 2014

November is the month that we enjoy the harvest of what we have grown the entire year. We prepare for the Thanksgiving meal from the bounty we have been given. It’s a time of reflection of what the year has brought. With it comes recognition of God’s faithfulness through another year. This is the month that I review all our family’s activities and events to find what key thing we have learned from God. Every year God amazes me with how He brought us through each event.

My son reminded me that we should thank God for the people in our lives. Usually I am wishing that I could live in a cabin in a wood away from everybody. (People can be annoying.)

Who in my life has encouraged me this year?

As I think, my list grows longer and so do the memories.

People are the blessings that help us through life.

It’s that little note that encouraged me on the day when everything went bad. It’s that smile on my son’s face when I just yelled about something. It’s that ‘thank you’ for the meal when I had thrown it together. list grows. It’s those people who influence my boys to do big things, man things. It’s those who drop everything and help so we can have water. It’s even those people who annoy me, because they are also the ones who bring me flowers and say, “See the rock I found, Mom.” It’s the people.

I can say like Paul, “I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all…”

Paul doesn’t just thank these people who have made a difference in his life. He blesses them. The next verse he tells them, “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:3-6.

Christ’s works would be made perfect. What He has started in their lives will not be in vain.

What kind of blessing can I share with those who’ve helped me?

My hands are empty for I cannot repay the gentle words, the smile, the skill, the perfect timing… but I am reminded of Paul’s words again.

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap… Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith” Galatians 6:7-10.

Do not lose heart in doing good. Do not grow weary. Do good.

God will perfect your works that He has started. As He does, His spirit works with your spirit to make things right. Keep doing what is right. And may “the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen” Galatians 6:18.

How have you been blessed by someone doing good?

In the end, it always comes down to people, doesn't it? They bring us the most joy and the most sorrow, and though as you say sometimes we want to crawl into the woods, we really wouldn't for God has given us people to bless us, to teach us, to encourage us, to mold us. Thank you for this special Thanksgiving word. (And when are we getting together! I'm doing very well with my cleaning so can take time off this week or next, but not the next as that is birthday week - 4 birthdays in 3 days!)
