Are You in a Rut?

September 9, 2015

Routine: daily, treadmill, habit, rut, beaten path, regular, ordinary, usual.

If you sleep eight hours a night, you will have slept 219,000 hours by the time you are 75 years old (not including any naps).

If you brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time, for seventy-five years, you will have spent 109,500 minutes or 1,825 hours brushing your teeth in your lifetime.

Routine builds your day, and your life.

Yet when you return from a vacation, do you remember how many times you brushed your teeth while you were gone?

Of course not, the routine slips from your mind, and the exciting adventures stand out.

As the Israelites traveled across the desert, the routine was their life. Water was essential. Food became important.

They arrive at the Promised Land, ready to enter in a year and a half. That’s one and a half years of eating and drinking water!

But then God decides they are not ready for the land. They wander for forty more years. Forty years of the same routine!

In their routine, they found that water and food were a gift they must ask from God.

Exciting? No.

Adventurous? No.

Just routine.

The daily life of God’s people who were beginning to know their God.

Yet planned by God to bring them to see Him.

If God felt that routine was what they needed to know Him, how are we any different?

Look to SEE God in your routine.

Jesus told his disciples, “He that is faithful in the little things, shall inherit the earth.”

How much of the inheritance will you have, when the little things are considered?

What have you learned in the ruts of your life?
What insights did God show you that encouraged you to continue?
